Basic Difference Between Biosimilar and Bioequivalence

A “Biosimilar” refers to a biologic drug that is highly similar to an already approved biologic (“reference product”), meaning it has essentially the same safety and efficacy profile with only minor differences.

Bioequivalence is a term used when comparing two drugs with the same active ingredient, demonstrating that they are absorbed and produce similar effects in the body, typically applied to generic versions of a brand-name drug.
