The two common causes of peak splitting in HPLC are a blocked frit and a void in the packing at the head of the column.
- The problem of the peak splitting can be solved by reverse flushing most of the times as it removes the contaminant from the column.
- Washing the column with 90% Organic phase such as Acetonitrile or Methanol can also solved the problem.
